Holiday party-hopping is one of joys of the season, but there's always the dilemma: What do you get the host or hostess?
Sure, you could bring another bottle of wine or, dare I mention this, a fruitcake?
Don't go there.
Gifts for the host should be thoughtful and ideally reflect the personality of the person for whom you are buying them.
Here are five gift ideas for five very different people:
- The Artist - MOMA's black lace bowl is crafted from metal with an intricate, vintage lace pattern. Your artsy host or hostess can serve candy in it at their next soirée.
- The Crafter - This type of person is the master or mistress of hospitality. Whenever they plan a party, it's detailed and beautiful. Why not assemble a holiday craft basket? Include a variety of patterned holiday paper, snowflake scissors, artist markers, stamps, stickers -- next year they'll have all of the tools to craft their own holiday cards.
- The Athlete - Maybe a trialthlon watch is up there alley.. Or, if they entertain during the sports season, your friend would enjoy their own etched team barware.
- The Musician - They love playing live. You can help them do that. The Danelectro N10 Honeytone is vintage-inspired.
- The Movie Maven - This is really easy to do. Buy a plastic popcorn container fill it up with movie snacks and gift certificates. You can also buy his or her favorite DVD and some snacks to change it up.
