Serious sewers have used pinking shears for countless projects, but when is the last time you refined your technique?
Tips for using pinking shears:
- Your fingers should fit the scissors handles comfortably
- If you hold the scissors at an angle, they won't cut well. If you hold the pinking shears level and straight (you'll get a better cut) the blades should do the work for you.
- Remember to use the shears on fabric that has a tight weave
Tips for pinking more delicate fabrics:
- If you're cutting something more delicate you can achieve the pinking effect by putting a stiffer fabric behind it and cutting through both materials
Pinking Don'ts:
- Don't cut through more than four layers of fabric at one time, you'll get a jagged cut
- Don't use pinking shears to cut patterns used for making clothes, you'll want to use pattern shears for that
