For many kids, Memorial Day means an extra day off from school, barbeques and a day at the beach. It’s important to remember the real reason behind this holiday, to honor our servicemen and –women, and a great way to do this is with some Memorial Day crafts.
One of my favorites as a kid was creating a flag out of popsicle sticks, something that could be used as decorations or left at grave sites. All it requires is some craft sticks (or leftover popsicle sticks), blue and red paint, glue, kids’ scissors, blue construction paper, and little star stickers.
Paint 5 of the craft sticks red and four white. After they have dried, glue them to an unpainted popsicle stick that will serve as the flag pole.
Cut out a piece of blue construction paper in the shape of a rectangle and glue it to the flag. Finally, add your stickers (the kind that would be used on reward charts at school). You may want to glue part of an extra craft stick to the back of the stripes on your flag to provide extra support.
